Free Date Ideas in Tokyo

I have been going on (and writing about) free date ideas in Tokyo! Today I am going to tell you about fantastic Tokyo date ideas that won’t cost you, or your date, one yen. Not only that, but it will be peaceful, romantic, and beautiful.

Let’s start with Caretta Shiodome Sky Restaurant – but not because of the food. The meals in Sky Restaurant are hella pricey, so luckily that’s not why we’re going up there.

We’re going up to the Caretta Shiodome Sky Restaurant because there’s an observatory there, and it doesn’t cost a thing to sit and gaze out the window.

It is totally free to sit up there and hold your date’s hand and share a special moment together. I went there recently with my special lady for a great date.

Why Free Dates Ideas in Tokyo

Shiodome Observatory

Free date ideas in Tokyo are the best. You aren’t worried about trying to make a fake activity work. There’s no sense of manufacturing a situation. You guys just get along, easy peasy.

These kinds of dates are great for easygoing people. They’re also a good way to find out if you guys are a good match, since the entire date is just made up of simple interactions.

Honestly, I think even if you have money to go out someplace fancy, you should mix it up with a free date.

Shiodome is a town in Southeastern Tokyo not far from Odaiba and Monzennakacho. The building with the observatory is a little hard to find, but once you get there, it’s breathtaking.

You can see all over Eastern Tokyo, including Rainbow Bridge, Hama Rikyu Gardens, and Tokyo Skytree.

To get upstairs, you need to go down to the B2F shuttle elevator.

And that is exactly what we did.

Free Date Idea 1: Shiodome Observatory

At first, we took the wrong elevator.  When you come, there are lots of different elevators, so try not to get confused and take the wrong one (like we did!).

You’ll know you’re on the right track when you see a giant turtle shell in the courtyard.

The elevator ride up was full of lights and buildings shrinking under us as we rode up. And actually, I know it’s stupid, but I actually made my date go up and down the elevator an extra time.

We took a lot of photos and videos at the top. My date took a time lapse video of the traffic, which I remixed into this reel:

Free Date Idea 2: Take a Stroll in Odaiba

Odaiba, Tokyo was a great place for a date. There are plenty of things to do, and when you’re done, you can check out the sunset together from a great view. For more, check out this article:

Free Date Idea 3: Shinjuku (Daytime)

If you’re based in Tokyo, you probably don’t need me to tell you about Shinjuku, so I’ll spare you the details. But here are some date ideas in Shinjuku based on a great date that I went on:

Free Date Idea 4: Plan Ahead

When planning date ideas in Tokyo, it’s a good idea to plan ahead. Tokyo always has events going on, so you should stay ahead of the curve by researching at least a week in advance.

To illustrate this, here’s a totally random place that I wound up including in a date just by Googling popular events at the time:
